Also Short-Track Junior & Senior A & B
Lancashire Junior Grasstrack Club operates according to the class rules and
regulations laid down by the governing body of British motorcycle sport, the ACU.
grass track classes are governed by both rider age and engine capacity. The
following information describes the differences between these classes and is
intended as a general guide only. Please feel free to contact us if you require
any further information.
You don't necessarily need a Grasstrack bike to race with us! - Lancashire Grass
Track Junior Riders Club also run classes specifically for motocross machines of
any engine capacity. You don't need to modify your bike to take part and many of
our riders are also regular motocross competitors.

Auto Cadet - White Plate - Black Numbers
The ideal way to start the sport for 6 and 7 year old riders. Machines used are
fully automatic 50cc bikes ranging from the ever popular Yamaha ‘Pee-Wee’ PW50
to highly tuned mini motocross bikes with speeds of up to 50mph. These simple to
ride machines offer the opportunity for youngsters to learn the skills required
in a safe and controlled environment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cadet - Black Plate - White Numbers
A class for 6-8 year old riders using purpose built machines of up to 60cc
(2-stroke) or 90cc (4-stroke). The class presents the ideal opportunity for
youngsters to get their first taste of a real grass track bike and competition
is always fast and furious. Also eligible for this class are motocross machines
of up to 65cc, most popular of which is the Kawasaki KX60.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Junior - Red Plate - White Numbers
A class comprising of pure grass track machines using engines of up to 100cc
(2-stroke) or 130cc (4-stroke). A very competitive class which always guarantees
a good turnout of riders, Juniors range in age from 9-11 years. Similar in
overall size to the Cadet bikes, the 100cc machines offer quite a bit more speed
and power.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intermediate - Yellow Plate - Black Numbers
12 to 14-year old riders on 2-stroke powered machines up to 150cc or 4-strokes
of up to 200cc. The light weight of a grass racing bike combined with the power
of a modern 125cc engine makes a potent combination. Usually slightly larger in
physical size than the 100cc bikes, Intermediate is largest engine capacity
class reserved exclusively for youth riders.

Motocross Classes
You don't necessarily need a grass track bike to race with us! - Lancashire
Junior Grasstrack Club also runs classes specifically for Motocross bikes of
65-125 cc. You don't need to modify your bike to take part, and many of our
riders are also regular Motocross competitors.
Motocross 65
One of the most popular classes in youth motocross, and becoming increasingly
popular at club level in youth grass track racing. Whilst the vast majority of
machines used are the ever popular Kawasaki KX 60 and KX 65, the class is open
to all MX type machines of up to 65cc with manual gearbox. Riders range in age
from 7 to 11 years.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Motocross 85 - Red Plates - White Numbers
Another class popular in junior motocross and becoming increasingly popular in
youth grass track. Big and small wheel versions of these rapid machines are
eligible at club level, and for the first time this year there has been a new
class introduced at National Championship level for small wheel versions. Riders
range in age from 9-15 years.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Motocross 100/125 - Yellow Plates - Black Numbers
A real 'handful' on a flat grass oval, this class can produce some exciting
racing. A modern 125cc motocross bike combines light weight with plenty of power
to break the back end away in the corners! -Riders range in age from 14-17
years.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unlimited Motocross - Plates as CC Class
As it's title would suggest, there are no limits as to the type of motocross
machine you can use in this class. In recent seasons we have seen bikes ranging
fron Cheney BSA's to modern YZF426 Yamaha's and just about everything else in
between! You could even race your Short Track or road legal Enduro machine
providing the lights and number plate are removed or taped over. A real fun
class which provides some seriously competetive racing as well as great
entertainment for spectators!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adult Grasstrack
Classes
Senior 250cc - Green Plate - White Numbers
A traditional grasstrack class and one which holds particular significance for
the grasstrack 'purists'. Explosive powerbands of the mainly motocross derived
2-stroke motors combined with razor sharp handling in a bike which weighs little
more than a moped! This class has provided some of the most exciting racing over
the years and thankfully seems, once again, to be gaining in popularity with
flourishing grids at National level. In
youth grass track they can be ridden by 15-17 year old competitors.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Senior 350cc - Blue Plate - White Numbers
Becoming more and more popular every season. The 350 class now boasts National
Championship status and is no longer seen as simply a stepping stone to the
500cc class. Purpose built machines running on methanol with mainly 2 speed
gearboxes are most often 'sleeved down' versions of the 500cc bikes and in many
cases almost as fast! Many junior riders use this class as their first in-road
to adult competition. In youth
competition riders will range in age from 15-17 years, though most have
progressed through the ranks before attempting to manage this sort of power!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Senior 500cc - Yellow Plates - Black numbers
The pinnacle class of grass track racing and raced at championship level
throughout Europe. Single cylinder 4-stroke machines often produce in excess of
70bhp allowing speeds approaching 100mph on the longest tracks. Not a class for
the beginner, racing is close and ultra competitive. These lightweight machines
have a power to weight ratio that is unmatched by even the fastest 'superbikes'.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adult Unlimited Novice - Plates as CC Class
A class which is very popular, Unlimited novice allows any adult rider the
opportunity to compete on 250, 350 and 500cc machines. This class attracts many
competitors and racing is very close and exciting. This is a great way back into
the sport for ex-racers and also a good starting place for the younger riders in
there first few years in the adult classes. You wont need the latest bikes to be
competitive and bargains can be found for just a few hundred pounds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pre-75 - Plates as CC Class
This class is for machines from grasstracks heydey of the 60's and 70's. All
manner of engines from motorcyclings past like J.A.P. and Weslake are mounted in
various proprietry frames and the racing is a marvellous spectacle. This class
now has Championship status in it's own right. Great racing and camerarderie
amongst competitors.
